  • About the Author
Lynn Cooper was born and raised in New York. She
graduated college as an English major, and worked on
Long Island as a human resources professional for over
twenty-five years. A poet all her life, she retired and
moved to Delray Beach, Florida, careful to secure her
valuables: a loose-leaf binder of finished poems, several
anthologies in which she had been published, and a
computer full of writing. Inside a Poemis Lynn Cooper’s
    first full-length collection of poetry.

    sample poems:
  • Bird Talk
  • Pushy pedantic parrots
    discuss philosophy
    global warming, extinction
    give wordy, high flown speeches
    while I, a self-restrained canary
    become lost
    in their avian rhetoric

    I want to screech
    above a tweet
    show them more
    than a bird’s brain
    instead I chirp
    flutter wings
    fly swiftly over their heads
    aim for their open mouths

    Fear in the Sky

    Eye level with bands
    of nature’s electricity
I clench my hands, my teeth
    shout OMG over and over

    As this small jet dodges
    thick smoky clouds
    in a hellish night
    Turbulence triumphs

    I grab onto seat’s armrests
    eye paper barf bag
    my dinner ready
    to exit my mouth

    Unwanted thoughts pervade
    my over-anxious mind
It’s not my time, I have
too much too many to live for

As pilot flies through a black hole
    determined to reach our destination
    I realize I have
    an appointment with Destiny

    Sunday Morning

    Like the still
    Autumn day outside
    my body is calm
A soft smile defines my lips
    I want to hold
    this feeling
    longer than
    our arms and legs
    entwine
    Longer than
    your scent stays
    on my sheets
    Long enough
    to erase years of
    Sunday mornings
    when I lay alone
    feeling like winter
    would never leave
